NH state vehicle inspections cover more than you might think. Let’s take a look at what we check during an inspection.
Safety Inspection
The first part of the inspection is the safety inspection. This covers everything that will affect the safety of your vehicle, from the important systems to visibility concerns. We check your steering, front end, and suspension to ensure you can adequately control your vehicle. Checking the tires and wheels also ensures that you have control on the road. Other important systems that we check include the brakes and exhaust.
Your vehicle’s electrical system is also important to its safety. All of your lights need to be working so other drivers can see you on the road. Your vehicle also needs a working horn in case you need to alert another driver to your presence.
When it comes to the driver’s ability to see, there are multiple areas a state inspection covers. These include the defroster, windshield wipers, glass, glazing, and mirrors. We also check your headlight aim to ensure you can see the road ahead at night.
Emissions and OBD Inspection
NH also requires an emissions test. Any vehicle manufactured after 1996 has a computer-based on-board diagnostics (OBD) system that monitors emissions and major engine components. As part of the inspection, we run a diagnostic to ensure that your vehicle does not have any faults that will cause excess pollution. The OBD also alerts us to other issues with your vehicle that may require repairs.
